September 26, 2008 – Arbitron Inc. (NYSE: ARB) announced today the company will not produce a Portable People MeterTM Weekly report in Houston for October Week 1 (September 18 through September 24, 2008) due to the impact of Hurricane Ike. Arbitron is also evaluating the impact of Hurricane Ike on October Week Two and will continue to issue status reports on upcoming deliverables as each release nears. About the Portable People Meter The Arbitron Portable People Meter system uses a passive audience measurement device – about the size of a small cell phone – to track consumer exposure to media and entertainment, including broadcast, cable and satellite television; terrestrial, satellite and online radio as well as cinema advertising and many types of place-based electronic media. Carried throughout the day by randomly selected survey participants, the PPMTM device can track when and where they watch television, listen to radio as well as how they interact with other forms of media and entertainment. The PPM detects inaudible codes embedded in the audio portion of media and entertainment content delivered by broadcasters, content providers and distributors. At the end of the day, the meter is placed in a docking station that extracts the codes and sends them to a central computer. The PPM is equipped with a motion sensor, a patented quality control feature unique to the system, which allows Arbitron to confirm the compliance of the PPM survey participants every day. About Arbitron Arbitron Inc. (NYSE: ARB) is a media and marketing research firm serving the media – radio, television, cable, online radio and out-of-home – as well as advertisers and advertising agencies in the United States. Arbitron’s core businesses are measuring network and local market radio audiences across the United States; surveying the retail, media and product patterns of local market consumers; and providing application software used for analyzing media audience and marketing information data. Authorities say a fire destroyed a pool house at rapper Ludacris' home outside Atlanta, according to the Associated Press. Ludacris, whose real name is Christopher Bridges, was out of town at the time of the Wednesday night fire. Fulton County Fire Department spokesman Gregory Chambers says a relative was in the basement of the main residence when the fire started and was not injured. Chambers says the fire was put out within 30 minutes but destroyed the pool house, which he says is larger than most homes. The fire was being investigated but the cause was not immediately identified. In related news, Ludacris was the first Hip-Hop artist to be inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame this past Saturday, September 20.

Troubled rap star DMX missed an important court date on Tuesday after being rushed to a South Florida hospital due to suffering "stroke-like" symptoms, according to AllHipHop.com. While DMX’s current condition is unknown, hospital officials did disclose he will not be released for at least the next few days. Charles Kozelka, DMX’s lawyer, claimed earlier today to not know any specific details about his client’s health. "I don’t know the cause, but I know that he’s still hospitalized and that they’ve admitted him and won’t be releasing him for a couple more days," Kozelka stated. DMX, real name Earl Simmons, was scheduled to be in court today to face charges stemming from a missed court date in Arizona. In that case, Simmons is charged with attempting to buy cocaine and marijuana from an undercover officer. Because of his illness, Kozelka successfully arranged DMX’s day in court to be pushed back to September 29, in hopes that Simmons will have recovered and be in condition to attend. The abrupt medical trip marks the second time in two months that the conflicted MC has been hospitalized. In August DMX missed a previous court date, admitting himself to a rehabilitation clinic in hopes of combating his well documented substance abuse problems. However, the judge issued a bench warrant as the missed date marked Simmons’ second consecutive no-show. Before his current hospitalization, X was free on $25,000 bond.

Zealous gamers and 50 Cent fans will be happy to know that the mogul's second video game titled "50 Cent: Blood on the Sand," hasn't been cancelled (just yet). Game developers are denying the rumors that have been spreading across the internet for the past week on respected gaming site Kotaku, which stated that the game was to be shelved due to the market being oversaturated with shooter-styled games, according to AllHipHop.com. Also, it was disclosed that the title’s UK developer Swordfish, would be sold off, effectively ending any hopes of the title being released. In a statement to kotaku.com, gaming publisher Activision verified they have taken over the title from Videndi but stopped short on whether they plan to release it. "We have a policy of not commenting on rumors," an Activision representative stated. "I can tell you that we announced back in July that we are retaining only those franchises that are a strong fit with our long-term strategy: Crash Bandicoot, Ice Age, Spyro, Prototype, and an unannounced new IP. We will not publish other titles that previously were part of the Vivendi Games portfolio and are currently reviewing our options regarding these titles." If released, the game will be a sequel to 2005’s chart-topping but critically panned "50 Cent: Bulletproof" . "Blood on the Sand" is purportedly modeled after the blockbuster X-Box shooter "Gears of War" and features as playable characters Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks and DJ Whoo Kid. While originally included in the game’s initial stages, it’s unconfirmed if former G-Unit member Young Buck is still in the game. At press time, gamesindustry.biz is reporting that the game’s team members are currently fixing bugs and working tirelessly to have the title completed by the targeted March 31, 2009 release date. If approved, "50 Cent: Blood on the Sand" will be released for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.[source]

New York City police today arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with last week's vicious attack of a Boston-area talk show host who was bludgeoned with a baseball bat during a robbery. Gavin Scott, 20, of 762 East 211th St., turned himself in at a police precinct in the Bronx this morning, said Detective Martin Speechley. He is to be arraigned on charges of attempted murder, robbery, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Police declined to say whether Scott was the assailant captured on a harrowing surveillance video striking Pelagio de la Cruz eight times with a baseball bat during an attack shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 14. Two men snuck up on de la Cruz in front of a building in the University Heights section of the Bronx when the talk-show host returned after an evening out. After the attack, the other man rifled through De la Cruz's pockets as the victim lay on the ground and stole his wallet and cellphone, police said. De la Cruz, 52, of Lynn, who hosted a Spanish-language call-in show called ``Conexion Hispana'' on WESX 1230 AM in Chelsea, remains in critical condition at St. Barnabas Hospital, police said. Manny Carrasco, a friend and the host of the Spanish-language program ``Empujando la Manana'' on WRCA 1330 AM, was pleased to hear about the arrest. ``Good,'' he said. ``If they got one, they'll get them both. That one's going to talk.'' De la Cruz was in New York visiting his children, who live in the city with their mother, his estranged wife, police said. Police released the surveillance video in hopes of finding the assailants. De la Cruz is from the Dominican Republic and worked in television there before coming to the United States 10 years ago, said the co-host of his show, Carlos Soriano. He moved to Massachusetts from New York less than a year ago to work on the radio show.
