The latest Gallup Poll, one of the most reliable pollsters in the United States, provides further proof that Joe Biden and Barack Obama have already won the election. The latest poll has Obama up by 11 percent, a 52-41 percent lead. The main reason for Obama’s success is the economic crisis. 59% of voters believe he is more competent to deal with the crisis than the Republican nominee, John McCain. McCain’s main advantage left is foreign policy, but he’s losing ground on that subject as well. Increasingly more Americans believe that Obama too will be able to deal with the country’s enemies and friends in an effective manner, while protecting U.S. interests. It marks the largest lead for Obama ever. Obama’s lead is unlikely to decrease by much in the coming weeks, as reported by PoliGazette.com. It is likely that we will see a change in Obama in the coming days, if other polls show the same results. He will undoubtedly start behaving more like someone who has already won, someone who is America’s president. This will probably increase his appeal for a lot of people. Because, the more people believe it’s over, the more likely it is that McCain will lose in a landslide.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has vetoed the "Donda West bill," which was aimed at helping to prevent plastic-surgery-related deaths, after a three-month delay due to budget contstraints on Sunday. The bill, prompted by the November death of Kanye West's mother, Dr. Donda West, failed to make it past the governor because of the backlog in California. Donda, 58, died a day after undergoing a breast reduction and liposuction surgery. With this summer's historic 80-day delay in passing the state budget, Schwarzenegger said he had time to enact only the top-priority legislation. "This bill does not meet that standard, and I cannot sign it at this time," read the veto message, one of dozens Schwarzenegger issued Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Times. An autopsy found that Dr. West had previous health problems, including high blood pressure and cardiac artery blockage. The cosmetic-surgery bill, AB 2968, received almost unanimous support in the legislature, and would have required people to undergo a physical examination, give a complete medical history and get a doctor's clearance before undergoing plastic surgery, reports LA Times. Democratic California Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter proposed the bill, along with Kanye's cousin Yolanda Anderson, following Donda's death. The surgeon who performed her surgeries, Dr. Jan Adams said at the time that nothing had gone wrong during the procedures. Earlier this year, the California state medical board reportedly revoked Adams' medical license due to his two alcohol-related arrests in recent years and his failure to pay child support.

Raptress Lil' Kim has been hit with a $2.5 million dollar lawsuit, amidst claims she tried to exit her contract with a fledgling entertainment company, before delivering all the recordings the contract requires. Brookland Media, which was launched by famed Hip-Hop producers The Trackmasters (Tone and Poke), filed the lawsuit in Manhattan's Supreme Court on Tuesday. Lil' Kim's lawyer, Londell McMillan, says Brookland sued "to leverage their own position" in the contract dispute. The lawsuit accuses Lil' Kim of breaching a one-year contractual agreement by demanding a more lucrative deal. According to the lawsuit, Kim refused to perform unless Brookland agrees to a number of requests, including demands to have Wyclef and Akon added as producers. In addition to withholding a $200,000 payment to fully free Kim from her contract with Atlantic Records, Brookland won an injunction, temporarily preventing Lil' Kim from negotiating with other record labels, as reported by AllHipHop.com. Brookland also claims it invested another $250,000 dollars towards the album and Lil' Kim's career. Brookland Media is being represented by attorney, Jonathan Davis.

Fan Votes Give Eminem Victory Over Jay-Z as the People’s Choice for Best Rapper in the Game –
VIBE has today announced Eminem as the winner of the Best Rapper Alive competition. The Detroit native beat out New York’s rap king Jay-Z in the Final Round with 69 percent of the votes, crowning him as the people’s choice for the true king of hip hop. The results of the contest are detailed in VIBE’s November 2008 issue hitting newsstands October 21st. "It’s obviously an honor to have won the fans' support by being voted the Best Rapper Alive,” says Eminem in response to his victory. “I don't think that there is any one rapper that is simply the best though. Everyone who was in consideration and many others are the best at certain things, and at what they do. But since Vibe's offering the distinction, hell yeah I'll accept!" The Best Rapper Alive competition gave VIBE readers the opportunity to decide who’s the best rapper in the game. This interactive, NCAA-style tournament pit the top 64 MCs recording today against each other in a head-to-head battle. Artists such as Lil Wayne, The Game, Nas, Kanye West, Rick Ross, and others competed against one another in the five-week tournament. The winners of each match-up were determined by fan votes on VIBE.com. More than 920,000 votes were cast since the contest began on July 21, 2008. VIBE readers could also cast their vote by mailing-in brackets provided in the August 2008 REAL RAP ISSUE. More than 500 brackets were submitted with the winner filling out the entire bracket correctly having a chance to win a free “Best Rapper Alive” engraved iPod, courtesy of Apple. Son Rap Legend Eazy E, Eric "Lil Eazy E" Wright Jr. and
Rapper Mack 10 Among Those to Participate
Los Angeles, CA - On Saturday, October 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. MY HOOD VOTES©, a grassroots education and mobilization campaign designed to engage non-traditional voters in underserved Black neighborhoods commonly referred to as 'the hood', will kick off operations in the City of Compton with the son of rap legend and philanthropist Eazy E, Eric "Lil Eazy E" Wright Jr. With an emphasis on educating ex-felons on their right to vote if they have complete parole, MY HOOD VOTES© has partnered with various rappers and entertainers in an effort to connect with these non-traditional voters who aren't influenced by elected officials, who don't watch the news or political debates, who aren't online, and who are not currently engaged in the upcoming election, other than knowing that a Black man is running for President. These potential voters are often overlooked by voter education campaigns in an effort to reach more likely voters such as the Black middle class and seniors. In addition to MY HOOD VOTES© voter education and mobilization efforts, there will be a call for peace in the streets on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4 throughout California so that voters in all neighborhoods can feel safe to get out the vote. Originally the concept of journalist and political activist Jasmyne Cannick, MY HOOD VOTES© is being spearheaded by rapper Eric "Lil Eazy E" Wright Jr., with support from radio personality The Poetess (Co-Host The Foxx Hole w/Jamie Foxx), celebrity publicist Amy Malone, community activist Niele Anderson, political consultant Herb Wesson III, and Minister Tony Muhammad of the Nation of Islam. Notable celebrities joining the call include rapper Mack 10, Big Boy (Power 106 radio personality), Guy Black (Radio Free KJLH 102.3FM radio personality), rapper DJ Pooh, comedian Lunelle, and actress Terra Menyone, ("The Shield").

JUAREZ, Mexico - A 990-pound bedridden man who had appealed on Mexican television for help tackling his weight problem died Tuesday of heart failure, his family said. Emergency officials had to knock down Jose Luis Garza's bedroom wall and load him onto the back of a friend's pickup truck as he fought for his life. The 47-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital in northern Mexico.Garza followed in the footsteps of the world's fattest man, fellow Mexican Manuel Uribe of Monterrey, by taking his weight problem public. Garza lived about an hour away from Uribe in the town of Juarez.Garza said he always struggled with his weight, but that he fell into a desperate cycle of depression and overeating nine months ago after his parents died of natural causes within two weeks of each other. He had been bedridden for four months.Garza's condition deteriorated over the weekend as he struggled to breathe and eat. At his funeral, family members slammed state officials for not moving Garza to a hospital before he became critically ill."If he had received support at the time he asked for it, he would still be with us," said his brother Pedro Garza.State officials argued there was little they could do."The attention he would have received at a hospital would have been the same he got at home," said Julio Cesar Cano, spokesman for the Nuevo Leon state health department. "Moving a patient of that magnitude is very difficult. A normal ambulance won't work."Uribe, whose record weight of 1,230 pounds earned him a place in the 2008 Guinness Book of Records, has claimed to have lost around 550 pounds by following the Zone Diet invented by Dr. Barry Sears.Uribe tried to help Garza by sending him kiwis, grapefruit, pears and a protein supplement. Uribe's fiancee, Claudia Solis, delivered the food on Friday evening
Tom Joyner Blogging Live During 2nd Presidential Debate on BlackAmericaWeb.com - Join The Fly Jock's Live Blog Party TONIGHT

What does our theme show, O.J. Simpson, and a live blog party have in common? They’re all topics of today’s blog. Stay with me… Our theme show today is domestic violence, a crime that knows no color, financial status, age or gender. Anyone can fall victim to it. When it comes to celebrities and domestic violence, I think Tina Turner is the first person that comes to mind. Even though she went through a lot, her story is inspirational because she has such a good comeback story. After all, she’s on tour, and Ike is dead. Another highly publicized case of domestic abuse involved O.J. and his former wife, Nicole. Coincidentally, he’s in the news now, this time being convicted for robbery, his verdict coming 13 years to the day of his acquittal on the charge of murdering his ex-wife and her companion. At one time, you could hardly find a black person who believed he committed those two murders. When the media realized that most blacks thought he was innocent, they turned it into a story about race. When the verdict was read, news cameras at a restaurant in a black neighborhood in L.A. captured the patrons cheering when O.J. was acquitted, and white America has never forgotten it. O.J. became one of the most hated black men in America . But would his acquittal have had the same impact if the ex-wife he allegedly murdered had been black? I can’t think of any black-on-black crime that has had white people that enraged. The way the media handled the O.J. case was a huge contributor to the racial division in this country and could be the reason that some white people won’t vote for Obama on November 4th. Their problem probably isn’t with Obama; their problem is seeing how happy black people will be if he wins. In tonight’s debate or the next one, I would love to see the race issue addressed, in the words of Luther, “if only for one night.” If not racism, at least issues that disproportionately impact us, like the huge dropout rate in inner-city schools. Tonight, we’ll watch the debate together tonight at my second Live Blog Party on BlackAmericaWeb.com. What issues do you want them to address? Will Barack Obama defend the horrible guilt-by-association accusations coming out of the McCain/Palin camp? Will McCain finally look Obama in the eye? Will either of them wink and give shout-outs? Let’s establish our Live Blog Party drinking game right now. Take a sip every time Barack Obama begins a sentence with ”look.” And turn up your glass every time McCain says “family," "prison," "war" and "partner.” Take an extra gulp if he uses all four words in the same sentence. And if you’re not too hung over from the blog party drinking games, in the morning, tune in to its official afterparty -- the TJMS. Let’s do it again tonight on BlackAmericaWeb.com! Join me, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. central time

Seven jurors from the O.J. Simpson trial say their guilty verdict was influenced more by secret audio tapes and surveillance video than eyewitness accounts. At a Sunday press conference, the panelists said the prosecution may not have won convictions for Simpson and his co-defendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart had those recordings not been made. "It would have been a very weak case," said Dora Pettit. Another juror David Wieberg added, "Yes, a weak case," and other jurors nodded in agreement. The seven jurors agreed to speak out two nights after the verdict was announced in a move to diffuse the onslaught of interview requests. They answered questions for an hour in the same courtroom where Simpson and Stewart were convicted of robbing two memorabilia dealers at gunpoint in a hotel room. The jury listened repeatedly to recordings made by collectibles dealer Thomas Riccio — the host of the hotel confrontation, who was granted immunity — and felt they heard things that had not been fully transcribed by police, juror Michelle Lyons said. But jurors could not trust the credibility of witnesses who were given plea deals, Lyons said. "We felt we could not rely on that witness testimony," she said. The jurors all denied they wanted to punish Simpson for past wrongs. Pettit said she prayed for him before and after the case. "I think he's an ordinary man that made a bad decision," she said. "I prayed for him and Stewart and the attorneys. I don't have any ill feelings, and if they walked out tomorrow, so be it." Simpson, 61, was acquitted in 1995 of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles. He was later found liable for the deaths in a civil case. He had claimed in the robbery case that he was trying to retrieve items that were stolen from him, according to Eurweb.com. The jury also reacted to complaints by Simpson's lawyers that there were no blacks on the panel, however, both defendants are black. One juror identified herself in a court questionnaire as Hispanic. "We've been painted as an all-white jury who hates O.J., and that's just not true," Pettit said. "The laws that were laid out were the laws. And they were clearly broken." Simpson's lawyer Yale Galanter told The Associated Press earlier Sunday that his client is hoping for a new trial and a strong bid to reverse his conviction. He is being isolated from other prisoners in the Clark County Detention Center for his own safety, and is allowed to see only family members and a few friends, he said. Simpson will be held at the detention center until his sentencing on Dec. 5 and then is expected to be moved to state prison. Galanter said he will pursue a request for Simpson to be released on bond during the appeals process. [source]

New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco today join Philadelphia and Houston as PPM markets in the top ten radio metros; Nassau-Suffolk, Middlesex-Somerset-Union, Riverside-San Bernardino and San Jose also go electronic.Arbitron Inc. (NYSE: ARB) announced today that it has commercialized its Portable People MeterTM radio ratings services in eight new markets. Arbitron has released radio audience estimates for the September 2008 PPMTM survey month (August 21-September 17) to its subscribers in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Nassau-Suffolk, Middlesex-Somerset-Union, Riverside-San Bernardino and San Jose.Effective today, the PPM radio audience estimates for these markets should be used as the basis for buy/sell transactions of radio commercial time among subscribing stations, agencies and advertisers. In addition, the July and August PPM survey months, which Arbitron had previously released as “pre-currency” information, are now designated as “currency” data. The Spring 2008 diary-based radio audience report (April 3-June 25) is no longer deemed “currency” for buy/sell transactions.Said Steve Morris, chairman, president, chief executive officer, Arbitron Inc: “We are commercializing our Portable People Meter radio ratings services in these markets in order to meet our obligations to our customers and to the radio industry.”“Without PPM, the industry will not have up-to-date estimates of the radio audience in the nation’s largest markets to facilitate an efficient buy-sell process for radio advertising. Advertisers are in the process of planning their ad budgets for all media including radio. Our goal with the commercialization of the PPM is to help radio remain competitive in an increasingly challenging media marketplace,” said Mr. Morris.
